Jeanne d' Arc (Joan of Arc to the English) was one of the most important figures in the Guerre de Cent Ans,1337-1453 (Hundred Years War, and yes it longer than 100 years but the 116 Years War doesn't sound as cool)) between England and France.
Most people have heard about the hitherto unknown 17-year-old peasant who came from nowhere in 1429, to give victory and hope to the French in what was a near lost cause in their war with the English.
Her nickname La Pucelle d' Orleans (the Maid of Olreans) was earned through her victory at the siege of Orleans in May 1429.
Few people in history have had such a profound effect on European history in such a short time and at such a young age. With her only reward being burned at the stake by the English in 1431 while only 19.
