"The Peasants are Revolting-Again"

The cry goes out, "down with the lords!" Yes, it is another of the endless revolts by the peasants when they lords become too overbearing. They usually fail, after causing destruction and death to both guilty and innocent. But occasionally they succeed, at least for a time, until a new ruling class takes over.

Rescuers-No-Raiders-Yes

Fresh on the heels of German and Hungarian raiders comes a new group of warriors.
These mercenary mounted crossbowmen are between jobs so need some ready cash.
So rather than assist the downtrodden village folk, they loot and pillage them instead. Such is the lot of peasants, taxed, or pillaged, it is just an accepted part of life.

RUN, Here Come the Teutonic Knights

Smashing though a Polish village bringing terror and death is a troop of Teutonic Knights bent on conquest ...in God's Name of course.
Thinking of themselves as crusaders to bring the "True Faith" into the lands of Northeastern Europe, they had no qualms about the looting, violence and death they left in their wake.
Their job done; it is now time to conquer the next village..."Ride On!"

Huzza-Our Reinforcements are Here

To cheers, a unit of mounted men-at-arms arrive in time to save the infantry and their war-wagons.
They are to the right is the cry from the foot soldiers...but no enemy are in sight...
No! You idiots, "Your Other Right."
Oh, righttt-Charge!

Charge-Death to our Capitan's Enemies!

With the thunder of hoofs, shouting battle cries and the thrusting of spears,...
mercenary cavalry charge home into the flank of their foes.
The added incentive of bonus pay from the mercenary captain for each enemy they fell increases the brutality of their attack.

Sword and Buckler Quick on the Attack-Quicker on the Retreat

Mercenaries are paid according to their skill experience and equipment. Among the cheapest to hire are the sword and buckler men.
With little armor a short sword and the small buckler shield these mercenaries are much faster than those lumbering heavily armored knights and sergeants. This allows them to move quickly into the attack as well as a fleet retreat.

Light Spear, then the Sword Swift Death then Retire

These Northern European Light Cavalry know their best defense is the fast attack, especially in the enemy's flank or rear.
Charge in with light spears, slash away with swords, if the enemy breaks, run them down.
If they foe stands pat, wheel away and ready for another opportunity to charge in again
