When Lost-Don't Ask A God For Directions

A hungry and lost Hoplite stops to ask a local deity for directions.

 

Unfortunately, the deity is an angry God Apollo, and the hoplite is the clueless "Brave Hiktos Nuluk" who is cursed to be hated, hunted, smited and generally beaten up by the Gods, Demigods, Monsters and Beasts of Greece.

All Kneel Before the Might of the Sun God

Helios, in all his glory demands obeyance from those less powerful and weaker than him.

As God of the Sun, who rides his Sun chariot from dawn to dusk, Helios is critical to the survival of the Greek World.

As one of the more powerful of the gods, he is generous to his friends and followers, and just as vengeful to those who cross him.

The child of the titans Hyperion and Theia, Helios is seen as both a titian and god.

His most famous offspring is the sorcerous Circe,

As Greek Gods go, Helios is better than most to his followers, but he can still lose his temper and bring the wrath of the gods on to those who anger him.

Helios is a 90mm (3.5 in) plastic piece that I finished earlier this month.

Call Me Odysseus or Ulysses, it Matters Not Now You DIE!

 

Never known for a calm deminer, Odysseus takes aim on those who have wrong him, his wife and family. Known for his actions in the Trojan War, his Odessey returning to his kingdom of Ithica and his brutal slaying of his wife's tormentor's, Odysseus (Ulysses to the Romans) is one of the most famous of the King heroes of Ancient Greek Myths.

                                    Odysseus is a plastic piece I painted in July 2018.

Never Leave A Battlefield Empty Handed

When the battle is over, the collection of usable weapons and armor commences.

Here we have a warhorse loaded down with military hardware from one of the mirid of battles of the Greek city-states. Shields, helmets, swords and spears are all valuable war booty for the victors.

They will see battles again and some may even become spoils of battle again, for such is the reality of war-no side is guaranteed victory in battle.

This is a scratch build of metal pies from 1970's Minifig castings.
 

Olympians Assemble

Pan is giving a party and has invited a few of his favorite Olympian Gods to join in the fun.

 Hera arrives first with Hephaestus and Athenia flanking Pan.

Artemis shows off her bow skills while Aphroditie contemplates what to do next-food, drink or "fun."

                                                      Pan and Hermes do a twosome.

                Macho time Hephaestus, Ares and Apollo show off their movies.

Only Fools Faceoff with the Erymanthian Boar

 

For generations, when Artimis-Mistress of the Hunt was angered she would send the fearsome Erymanthian Boar to destroy the farms and animals of those who had offended the Goddess.

So powerful and dangerous was the Erymanthian Boar that it would take the great Herakles to subdue the beast. 

As the 4th of his tasks, Herakles was required to capture the Erymanthian Boar and deliver him to King Eurystheus of Mycenae.  So fearsome was the boar that the king hid in a bronze urn until his retaines took the monster away.

The Erymanthian Boar is a plastic piece I painted in July of 2021.

Diomedes, the Forgotten Hero

As King of Argos, Diomedes led 80 warships to the shores of Troy during the Trojan War. He was one of the most successful of the Greek Leaders as he destroyed Rehus and his Thracian's, wounded the Goddess Aphrodite (never a good idea) and captured Pallas Athena's the sacred Palladium that protected Troy.  During the destruction of Troy, Diomedes ruthless policy was "...not a single foe will escape me with life. The brave man makes an end to every foe." He therefore slaughtered all he came upon!

Aphrodite's revenge on Diomedes fell on him when he returned to Argos only to find his wife had betrayed him and his throne was lost (pissed off goddesses always have the last laugh). He was forced to flee to Italy where he established the city of Argyrippa  (Arpi). Soon his exploits in the Trojan War were forgotten in Greece earning him the title "the Forgotten Hero."

100 Heads are Better than One-So Says the Ladon Serpent

Also known as the Ladon Serpent, Drakon Hesperios was the 100 headed dragon that protected that guarded the Golden Apples of the Hesperides.
 

Its fate was sealed when Herakles (Hercules) was tasked to retrieve the Golden Apples. To optain the apples he had to first kill the Ladon Serpent.  

The Ladon Serpent is the first piece I have painted for October.

Hoplite Officer

Every military force needs officers; Greek Hoplites were no acceptation.

Alexi Cripus was rewarded with his leadership role for his brave actions in several battles.

Alexi is a plastic piece I painted over the weekend.

Poseidon is Going to War

Poseidon, King of the Oceans, normally appears in his human form, but not today, for today the Gods are going to war with the Titans.

With his signature weapon, his trident, Poseidon is ready for whatever the Titans can throw in the upcoming Titanomachy War.

Not even a powerful God such as Poseidon can foresee that this war will last for more than ten years and reshape much of the countryside during the horrendous conflict.

                        Regardless, Zeus has called for war, and war it shall be.

"Imprisonment or death and destruction to those stand against the Gods," shall be the battle cry!

You Can Never Have Enough Hopites

Ready to fight to the death for their city-state, these men know that true conflict is always up close and personal.

Hoplites are the best soldiers of any Classic Greek army.

Hoplite-ATTACK!

Hoplites were the heavy infantry of the Greek city-states. Armed with a 2.44 m (8 ft) thrusting spear and short sword, hoplites were the best soldiers of Greece.  Their name derived from hopl-the name of the large shield. They also were normally equipped with chest, leg, waist and head armor of cloth, linen, leather or metal-normally bronze.
