Death by Fire is a Bad Way to Go

The cry "Enemy Flamethrower" is enough to terrorize even the bravest soldier.

Throughout the wars of the 20th century flamethrowers were a popular go to when fortifications such as pillboxes had to be eliminated.

Such as the one behind this PVA flamethrower team in the Korean War.

Light Mortar Easy to Move to the Frontlines

This PVA team is ready to let fly from their 50mm 92 inch) Soviet RM-38 light mortar.

Quick to set up less than a miniate for a skilled crew, it could give effective fire support up to 700m.

It was not as powerful a the American 60mm light mortar. Therefore, the Chinese were quick to copy the American design and replace their Soviet and captured Japanese Type 10 and 86 mortars as quickly as feasible.

Never Refuse to Use Your Enemies Weapons-(especially if they are better than anything you have)

The Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) had no antitank weapon as strong as the US Armies M20 89mm (3.5 inch) "Super Bazooka." And all good soldiers recognize the validity of using the weapons of their enemies when they are superior to your own.

So, these PVA soldiers are lucky to have been issued a captured M20 to use in the Korean War.

While ammo supplies last, they will have an effective antitank and bunker buster weapon system.

What's on the Painting Desk

Up first is a Space Marines Dark Angles Heavy Weapons trooper.

Front to back: Tyranid Termagants and a Tyranid Prime, Space Marine office, six Koren War PVA heavy weapons soldiers, a Marvel Superhero and a large Djinn.

All are plastic pieces.

Tanks for the Memories

 

M3 Lee, the first mass produced US medium tank.

The Shinhoto was an up gunned High velocity 47mm ATG version of the Japanese Chi-Ha Medium Tank, even though the Chi-Ha low velocity cannon, at 57mm, was 10mm wider than that of the Shinhoto.

German Mark III up gunned with a long 50mm.

M4 Sherman, with 50,000 produced, the most numerous Western tank of the war.

T-34 85, the up graded T34 that smashed the Axis powers on the Eastern front.

Churchill, heaviest of the British infantry tanks of the war.

M26 Pershing, Americas answer to the German Panther and Tiger tanks.

All are model pieces I have painted for my Bolt Action World War Two (and some for the Korean War) Armies.

Winter Soldiers

The dead of Winter can be a tough time for soldiers who have to battle snow, freezing temperatures and the enemy all at the same time. Such are the difficulties this American platoon must face on the Winter battlefield.

Today's Workbench

The Korean War men are Russian winter bodies mixed with US Army heads, equipment and weapons.

News from the Front-"United Nations Advance in Korea"

Our reporter with the United Nations forces moving through North Korea has sent some photos of the victorious troops as they follow up the defeated enemy.  

The M-26 Pershing Tank with its 90mm cannon and three machineguns gives a solid punch to the United Nations Forces as they chase the routed North Korean Army (NKA) invaders.
 

Armed with the new and improve "Super Bazooka," American soldiers have little to fear from NKA tanks.

These US Marine Corps (USMC) artillerymen offer powerful and accurate fire from their 105mm howitzer supporting the Allied advance.

British commonwealth troops make up the second largest force of the United Nations Allied forces, the Americans have the most UN troops in Korea. One of the heroes even shows off his captured PPSh-41 Soviet Submachinegun.

This USMC Jeep with its .50 Cal machine gun, affectionally known as the Ma Duce by is users, gives excellent fire support to the victorious UN troops.

The M-16 halftrack with its four .50 Cal machine guns is known as the "Meat Chopper" for its ability to cut up attacking NKA troops.

When direct heavy fire power is needed, the Churchill ARVE withs its 290 mm main weapon is called into action. 

All these weapons and the United Nations soldiers using them have chased the defeated NKA troops almost to the Chinese border, General Macarthur says the war is all but won and the boys will be home by Christmas. 1951, should be a year of peace, we hope.

Drop 100, Fire for Effect

1951, Korea, UN British Commonwealth mortar team gives fire support to their fellow UN troopers.

It's hard, hot work that has the crew near the front lines. As the enemy was 

expert at infiltration, having your small arms readily at hand was no small matter.

The mortar and team are metal the weapons and shovel are plastic. I painted all of them in March.
