The Goddess Idunn takes her task of preserving the youth and vitality of her fellow gods very seriously.
As the "Rejuvenating One," Idunn uses her magic golden apples to maintain the strengths of the Asgardians.
This comes naturally to the Goddess of Spring where the World restores itself from the rigors of Winter.
Her powers of restoration through her golden apples has attracted the negative attention of both Loki and the Jotunn.
In particular, the Jotuun Thjazi plotted with Loki to kidnap Idunn and her precious golden apples.
Her capture earned the rath of the god's (who feared aging and death without the restorative golden apples) especially from her husband Bragi. Loki was quickly apprehended and forced on pain if death to free Idunn.
Loki in the form of a falcon, rescued Idunn from the giant's home and returned her to Asgard. An enraged Thjazi followed them to Asgard where he was killed. The death of Thjazi led to problems for the gods with his daughter the Jotunn Skadi...but that is another story.
