Born Remy LeBeau , Gambit was raised by street thieves in New Orleans. With his mutant powers to manipulate the molecule elements of any object into a powerful explosive, Gambit was able to survive on the toughest streets of New Orleans. 
 

His misspent youth with gangs and other criminals came to an end when he was befriended by Storm who introduced him to the X-Men, a new career in helping vs stealing now opened up to him.
