Mk 2 Hand Grenade the Infantryman's Favorite Explosive

Two US soldiers let fly with the Mk 2 fragmentation grenade while in action in 1943.

Nicknamed the pineapple due to its distinct ribbing design, the Mk2 was first introduced in 1918. and would remain in use by the US military as late as the Vietnam War in the 1960's.
 

Depending on the situation/terrain the lethal range of the Mk2 "frag" could be up to 50m (150+ft). But 10m (30ft) would be more common. It was most effective in confined areas like rooms and bunkers.
