Iroquois Scout Raiders

Two Iroquois in full war paint scout ahead of the main raiding party. The Iroquois Confederation was a major power in the forests and lands of what is now the New England and the parts of the Great Lakes area.
Small war party raids were an all to common occurrence in the 17th and 18th centuries. Especially as a response to a raid from a hostile neighboring society.
Originally the raids were solely between rival tribes and confederations such as the Iroquois vs Huron. But with the coming of the European settlers and their national rivalries, the raids increased against the new interlopers and the tribes that allied with them.
These two plastic warrior were painted up last night and are the first of full warband that will join my other 16tth-18th centuries New World Armies.
As a side note, to the Iroquois of the time, blue war paint represented bravery, black represented war and red meant the warrior was ready to kill or die in battle.

When Evil Is Needed Call Red Skull

Nothing symbolizes evil more than Red Skull
From his first appearance with the Nazis, he has been the center of plans for World domination.

Never one to avoid an evil plan, Red Skull plots with any who he feels can promote his rise in power.
Red Skull is a plastic piece from Atomic Mass Games  "Crisis Protocol that I painted this week.

Austrian Dragoons-Marching to the Sound of the Guns

In the war torn decades of turn of the 18th to 19th centuries, the cavalry of the Austrian Empire marches to the sounds of the battle.
While famed for the number and quality of their cavalry, the Austrian leadership was rarely of a high enough quality to lead them to victory over the French.
These are 15mm metal castings from Hinchcliffe that I painted in the 1970's.

OF Course I Read, What Do You Think I Am, A Beast!

When taking a break between smashing evil, Beast enjoys a good book.
Just because he looks like a beast, has monstrous strength and likes bashing things, doesn't...

mean he neglects the further education of the brain, besides he like to read.
Beast is a plastic Marvel Universe "Crisis Protocol" game piece that I painted yesterday.

Thoth the Recorder of Lives

Thoth the scribe of the gods, creator of magic, writing, laws, religion, science and the recorder of the results of the judgement of the dead souls attempting to enter Osiris' realm of  the Afterlife.
With the head of an Ibis or Baboon, his sacred animals, Thoth accomplished his duties with honesty and truth.
As one of the Major Egyptian Gods, he was critical to the maintenance of the Universe.
Thoth and his baboon are plastic pieces from the Rise of Mologh that I pained in July. They are part of a set of 4 that will be presented in a later post.
