`Old School Napoleonic's

These French Imperial Guard Cavalry are some of my first wargame pieces I ever painted.
They are old Scrubby's from 1974, he called them "N" scale. They cost about 15 cents and I painted them with Testor's oil paints.  They bring back lots of memories.

Their Duty Goes Beyond Death

Skeleton Warriors never know the peace of eternal rest.
Having been created by foul magics, these doomed warriors are forever must answer the duty call to war of their master.
These are plastic pieces from Mystic Battles that I pained in July of 2018.

Welcome to the Land of Hela

Hela, as ruler of Niffelheim and Hel, controlled the souls of the dead.
Hela Odinsdottir has the aspirations to control all of Asgard...or to destroy it!
Being Odins first born, she believed that she was his true heir, a belief not held by her brothers Thor and Loki.
Even the fear of Ragnarök would not prevent her from attempting to take control of her "rights" as the heir to Odin.
Hela is based on the Norse Goddess Hel, in Crisis Proticol she is referred to as Lok's daughter not Odins.I painted this plastic piece the weekend of April 23-24.

Warrior Queen

Alina warrior Queen readies for battle in the mythic worlds. With total confidence in her military skills, she wears a minimum of armor.  She especially distains back armor as no true warrior would ever turn their back on an enemy.

Alina is a plastic piece from Mystic Battles that I painted in 2018.

Yes, Marines Use Tanks

While the 75mm M4 Sherman tanks were quickly outclassed by the latest German designs, they were more than enough to hand the best tanks the Japanese could muster in the Pacific.
Used to getting hand-me-down equipment from the Army, the Marines were delighted to receive Shermans rather than the obsolete M3 Lee's.
The solid armor, 75mm cannon, two .30 cal. and one .50 cal. machineguns were enough to handle the best Japanese AFV's.
The 75mm HE rounds were effective at both anti-personnel and bunker busting.
Some Shermans were even equipped with flamethrowers making them even more deadly.
I build and painted this plastic model in the camouflage pattern used by the 5th Marine Tank Battalion at Iwo Jima in 1945. The Marines brush pained rather than airbrushed the camo on their tanks for Iwo.   My mom's name was "Dolly." I finished this Sherman today.

The Map Says This Way

With a line regiment at his command, this French general marks his progress on his map. The regiment is led by its light company and Grenadiers.

Any mistake he makes can have dire consequences not only for his men but possible for the entire corps of which his force is a part.

The general and his regiment are part of my 15mm French corps. They are metal pieces that I painted in the 1970's.

Sudan on the March

Fighting for religion and nationalism are common themes for wars for centuries and the Sudan is no exception.
In the last decades of the 19th century was wracked by war, with these Sudanese fighting against the forces of Egypt and Imperial Britian.
Some were armed simple muskets but most carried swords, spears and animal hide shields.
Their military power was eventual crushed by the modern arms of the British at the battle of Omduman in 1898.
I painted these plastic pieces in 2017.

Prussian Queen of Battles

A battery of Prussian 12 pounder artillery, the "queen of Battles," readies to battle the French.
A regiment of British line stands in reserve to give the support if needed.
Massed batteries of field artillery became a hallmark of the Napoleonic Wars
and later 19th century conflicts.

These are 15mm metal pieces that I painted in the 1970's. They have held up fairly well for being almost half a century old.

For God and England

In God's name, Parliamentarian cavalry marches "towards the sound of the guns" during the English Civil War, 1642-51.

Two squadrons of battle tested troopers, armored and armed fought with the zeal of knowing God was on their side against the forces of King Charles I.
The cavalry was the elite arm of Cromwell's New Model Army.
These are 1970's designs that I painted earlier this century. They do not have the quality of design of new pieces, but make up for this with their solid metal castings.

Natal Contingent

In the Zulu War, some African leaders choose to fight on the side of the British.
These "Natal Contingents" varied in quality and loyalty.
While some were armed with old British firearms, most went into battle caring their traditional hand-to-hand weapons.
After some initial spectacular Zulu victories, in the end overwhelming British firepower won the war.
While on the winners' side, life was not much improved for the African men who fought on the British side.  They became just another cog in the military of the growing Victorian British Empire.
These are plastic pieces I put together and painted in March of 2017.

Drop 100, Fire for Effect

1951, Korea, UN British Commonwealth mortar team gives fire support to their fellow UN troopers.
It's hard, hot work that has the crew near the front lines. As the enemy was
expert at infiltration, having your small arms readily at hand was no small matter.

The mortar and team are metal the weapons and shovel are plastic. I painted all of them in March.
